Jan Franje, Franje Onions:

"Good demand for Dutch red onions due to India's export stop, but there are limited containers available"

Most of Franje Onions, in the Netherlands, onions are already in storage. But, they're still receiving loads. "It's very wet her now. We're, however, still getting onions in the north of the country," says Jan Franje of Franje Onions. "Our yields are decent. There's always a disappointing batch, but generally, we're getting beautiful onions."

"There's a reasonably broad demand. After India's export stop, the demand for particularly red onions is off to a good start. But, sales prices aren't rising. I think they're actually under a bit of pressure."

"Unfortunately, container availability is a real issue for almost all destinations. Added to that, the Corona crisis is hanging over the sector like a thundercloud. Nobody knows how it will develop. But [the Dutch] measure allowing only 30 people in a restaurant certainly doesn't do sales any good," Jan concludes.
