Pear markets are stable

This year the supplies of pears are higher than in 2019, but less than those of a standard year. Therefore, prices are above average, although it is not clear that the yields will be gratifying for the companies concerned.

This was confirmed by some operators in the sector and it was also verified in wholesale markets. "The Abbot is going well - explained an operator in the market of Cesena - especially for the first quality lots. The most expensive pears are appreciated more than the cheaper ones. Usually, those who are looking for the lowest offer possible do not buy from us at all."

The Abbots of larger caliber and of first choice at wholesale, have also reached 2.10 euro/kg on Friday, 9 October 2020. Other lower calibers ranged between 60 and 1.80 euro/kg, varying with quality. They were sold at 1 euro/kg in bins. Of course, these are only the prices of a small number of operators, which may not be reflected on the entire pear market.

"Kaiser pears are in an intermediate stage. It is a typical winter fruit, and sales increase as temperatures drop, because they are also bought for baking. We are selling them at 1,40 - 1,60 euro/kg. The William Bianco pear instead is ranging between 1.40 and 1.80 euro/kg."
