In the fruit and vegetable trade, but also in many other areas of the food trade, reusable systems are indispensable. Anyone who uses them knows what problem they bring: there are labels on the containers that did not -or not completely- come off after cleaning. If such containers are then relabeled, this can lead to problems such as illegible texts or barcodes that cannot be scanned. "This can lead to errors when picking, sending or delivering the containers. Particularly in areas where efficient logistics processes are important, i.e. especially in the case of perishable food, such errors should not occur," says Harald Jantzen from Contact.
The company's new solution - labels that can be removed without leaving any residue even, at low temperatures and without chemicals - is intended to provide the answer. "Of course, hygiene plays a major role in the production, transport and sales of food. This is why crates and the like have to be cleaned frequently. These special circumstances place high demands on the labels. They must adhere securely in what is usually a damp and cool environment, but must be removable later without leaving any residue. Our washable labels with cold water peeling adhesive (G 7 CWP) meet these requirements."

Stubborn labels are causing several problems for pool system providers: "To remove ordinary labels from the boxes without leaving any residue, hot water -usually between 50 and 70°C- and cleaning agents are needed. If that is still not enough, the labels have to be removed with special high-pressure cleaners. Water and energy consumption are therefore high and there is an additional burden of cleaning agents in the water. Our cold water peeling labels will already dissolve at 35°C, offering a sustainable solution for these problems."
The new product is still in the test phase, but so far the value-added system providers have been satisfied, Jantzen knows: "The labels save on costs and resources. At the same time, the use of chemicals that could come into contact with fruit, vegetables and other fresh foods, is totally avoided."
