On December 12, Contecon Guayaquil SA (CGSA), the private administrator of the Liberator Simón Bolívar Maritime Port, loaded the world's first container with carbon-neutral certified land and port logistics. The merchandise, belonging to Tropical Fruit, was transported by sea by MSC to France, where it will be marketed by the Société Iternationale d'Importation (SIIM).
In addition, Contecon has been accredited as the first terminal in the American continent to comply with the ISO 14064 standard in its operations.
"This was achieved thanks to the trust of the country's exporting companies, who choose Contecon Guayaquil for their operations, our allies, governing entities, collaborators, managers, and -above all- thanks to our private concessionaire's incessant bet on investing in infrastructure that not only leads to economic and port growth but is also friendly to the environment," stated Jose Antonio Contreras, the general manager of Contencon Guayaquil SA.
Exporters can now certify their land and port logistics, increasing their competitiveness in the most demanding markets in compliance with regulations and successfully satisfying the growing consumer demand for products from sustainable processes.
The Minister of Transportation and Public Works, Gabriel Martinez, highlighted how important it was that the public port of Guayaquil, under concession, was recognized for this. "We did not make a mistake last year when we signed the addendum to give them 19 more years of concession and released 170 million dollars to invest in this port," he said.
