Steve Belsey - Freshpro Imports

Fresh cranberry sales up 20%

Steve Belsey who heads up Freshpro Imports' berry division is just finalising his Belarusian cranberry season with sales up 20% on last season, despite the fact that many of the outlets such as catering and restaurants have for most of this season experienced trading restrictions or even been closed.

"Although we have lost a lot of the the food service side out of Covent Garden we have increased sales by other means including a good demand from suppliers of fruit and veg boxes who have added fresh cranberries as Christmas special."

The Belarus cranberries are dry harvested which helps prolong the shelf life, whilst the majority of the USA/Canadian cranberries imported in to the U.K are wet harvested, so Belarusia offers a point of difference to our customer base.

"The standard packs supplied to the trade is generally a 200g punnet or 5kg loose pack. Although other bespoke packs/packaging are available for next season based on the individual needs of each customer.

As a result of such a successful season he is already making plans and confirming programmes for 2021.
