In 2020, China's fruit import value exceeded US$10 billion for the first time, reaching US$10.26 billion, a year-on-year increase of 8%. Import volume amounted to 6.302 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 8%.
The main categories of Chinese fruit imports by import value are:
1. Fresh durians:
Import value amounted to US$2.3 billion, a year-on-year increase of 44%; import volume amounted to 575,000 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 5%;
2. Fresh cherries:
Import value amounted to US$1.63 billion, a year-on-year increase of 16%; import volume reached 210 thousand tons, a year-on-year increase of 9%;
3. Bananas:
Import value amounted to US$930 million, a year-on-year decrease of 15%; import volume amounted to 1.747 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 10%;
4. Mangosteens:
Imports amounted to US$680 million, a year-on-year decrease of 15%; import volume was 294,000 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 19%;
5. Table grapes:
Import value amounted to 640 million U.S. dollars, the same year-on-year; import volume was 25 million tons, the same year-on-year;
6. Fresh dragon fruit:
Import value amounted to US$550 million, an increase of 53% year-on-year; import volume amounted to 618,000 tons, an increase of 42% year-on-year;
7. Fresh longans:
The import value was US$490 million, an increase of 16% year-on-year; the import volume was 346,000 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 15%;
8. Fresh kiwis:
Import value amounted to US$450 million, a year-on-year decrease of 1%; import volume amounted to 117,000 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 9%;
9. Dried or fresh oranges:
Import value amounted to 310 million US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 23%; import volume was 293,000 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 32%;
The import value of the above categories accounted for 78% of the total fruit import value.
