Maqis seizes 28 tons of red onions at Tanjung Pelepas

The Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department has seized over 28 tons of red onions - worth RM250,000 - at the Port of Tanjung Pelepas. According to Johor Maqis director Hizzuan Hashim, the onions were imported from Thailand. They were seized during a routine inspection at the port on Tuesday April 13.

Hizzuan added that the 28.35 tons of onions are worth around RM251,194 (€50,240). All the goods have been confiscated for further action and the case will be investigated under Section 13 of the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act for making a misleading declaration to the authorities. The offence carries a fine of not more than RM50,000, a jail term of up to two years or both upon sentencing.
