Both products had interesting year-on-year increases in January and February

Peruvian grape and blueberry exports will continue to grow in 2021

The evolution that Peruvian fruit exports had in the first two months of 2021 suggests that shipments of blueberries and table grapes, two of the country's most important export products, will increase this year.

Oscar QuiƱones, the head of the Foreign Trade Research and Development Institute of the Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL), said that in January and February blueberry shipments had experienced a 25.8% growth in value and an 11.9% increase in volume over the same period of the previous year, totaling 45 million dollars and 8,150 tons. Export destinations include the US, the Netherlands, UK, and Hong Kong.

"We are the United States' leading blueberry supplier and exports to the European market are growing little by little," he added.

According to QuiƱones, in the first two months of the year, the country exported 209,819 tons of grapes for 510 million dollars, i.e. 17% more volume, and 27% more value than in the same period of last year. The most outstanding destinations were the US, Hong Kong, the Netherlands, Spain, Mexico, and China.

The Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri) expects the country will increase its grape exports by 16% this year, totaling 1,214.5 million dollars, and its blueberry exports by 11%, totaling 1,113.7 million dollars.
