Supporting Small Industries Development Organisation SIDO

Tanzanian government committed to developing small scale industries

The government of Tanzania has restated its commitment to developing small scale industries that can add value to the agricultural sector. This means the government has continued building capacity to the Small Industries Development Organisation (SIDO) in order to initiate and develop various technologies.

The Small Industries Development Organisation has Technology Development Centres (TDCs) in seven regions for manufacturing machines and processing tools, said Industry and Trade Deputy Minister Exaud Kigahe. These are to be found in the Kilimanjaro, Arusha, Kigoma, Lindi, Iringa, Mbeya and Shinyanga regions.

Kigahe said that the machines are used for processing produce such as banana, potatoes and cassava as well as drying horticultural produce such as vegetables, fruits, tomatoes, carrot and several others. The minister added that SIDO has ensured that processing machines are adequately supplied to citizens in the regions of Kigoma, Lindi and Shinyanga at affordable prices.
