Organic products have seen a nice progression in recent years. With a 0.7% increase on average, expenses in organic foods have reached 5.6% in 2019 and 2020, according to the Kantar Institute.
One reason for this progression is the increase in food spending in 2020 due to the closure of restaurants. Organic products are generally more expensive than conventional products, and French consumers do not want to spend more. For 7 consumers out of 10, the price of organic products is a deterrent, and for many, consuming organic products is not the only way to eat healthy while respecting the environment.
There is also growing competition on the supermarket shelves, with an increasingly wider range of organic products.
