On April 23, the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture informed the Argentine Embassy in Jakarta of the adoption of Decree 263/KPTS/KR050/M/04/2021, which renews the recognition granted to Argentina's official sanitary control system for another 3 years. This renewal will maintain the application of a simplified export regime for Argentine products, significantly reducing operating costs.
The recognition had expired on April 11. The approval of this Decree immediately restored the simplified conditions for Argentine exports.
The Indonesian government renewed the recognition thanks to the effort of the national agricultural portfolio, the National Agrifood Health and Quality Service (Senasa), the support and negotiation actions of the Argentine Foreign Ministry, and the efforts carried out by the Undersecretary for Multilateral and Bilateral Economic Negotiations, Ambassador Carola Beatriz Ramon.
Argentina's Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries, Luis Basterra, celebrated the renovation by pointing out the importance of the Indonesian market, which has become one of the most important and dynamic destinations for Argentina's agro-industrial exports. In 2020, Argentinean exports to this market amounted to 1,299 million dollars, in 2006 they only amounted to 269 million dollars.
The recognition will facilitate the export of Argentine agricultural products to this 260 million people market. The products included are grape, onion, garlic, blueberry, cherry, citrus fruit, grapefruit, orange, tangerine, lemon, nectarine, peach, pear, soybean, wheat, corn, and cornmeal.
The most outstanding fruits on the list of products included in the approved recognition are the Argentine pears (which achieved exports of 680,000 dollars to Indonesia last year) and sweet citrus (with 504,000 dollars).
