OP Fonteverde between the end of the vegetable season and the start of the melon season

"While the bell pepper season is almost over, the zucchini season ended prematurely due to the low prices," reported Carmelo Calabrese from OP Fonteverde.

"We can say the bell pepper season has gone rather well this year however, even if prices were well above €2/kg for a few weeks, the real average has been €0.85/kg throughout the season. Most of our production has been harvested, the rest will end in June. As for zucchini, prices have been very low over the past few days, so we have decided to end the campaign early. The average price has been €0.65/kg."

Overview of the warehouse

"The carrot season is almost over as well, we have harvested approximately 75% of the volumes and quality was satisfactory thanks to the favorable weather conditions. Demand is excellent at the moment, especially from foreign markets such as Poland, Germany, Czech Republic and others, which which we will be finished with around May 10th. Afterwards we will continue supplying our domestic clients. The average price for washed produce in big bags is approximately €0.30/kg."

Another important product for Fonteverde are Sicilian new potatoes, which were 10 days late this year due to the temperatures below average.

"Quality is excellent and prices at the moment are €0.50/kg for the produce in big bags. Production will intensify in May and should be over around late June. The markets of reference for our potatoes are mainly the domestic ones."

OP Fonteverde has been part of Consorzio Mundial for years, which is the exclusive grower of the Red Falcon variety.

"We have started harvesting our prestigious Red Falcon netted melons. Brix levels do not drop below 15/16 and the price is currently around €1.50/kg, although demand is a bit slow due to the temperature below the seasonal average. More in general, we are affected by the closure of the H&R sector caused by the pandemic. Quantities available are currently low but will increase over the next few days, making it possible to fully meet the demand from our commercial partners."
