Strawberry prices plummeting in China

During the Spring Festival period, strawberry prices were still high, but they have plummeted in April. Now, they only cost 5 to 10 yuan per half a kilo, and smaller sizes are marketed at as low as 3 yuan per half a kilo. Those people who like strawberries must have noticed that they are getting a lot cheaper recently.

Growers are stepping up shipments. A grower said that during the Ching Ming Festival in early April, the market was good, and only ripe fruit was marketed each day, but it’s different now. The current price of 10 yuan per half a kilo means that growers would make a loss, so they no longer only ship fruit that is ripe, but in a bulk.

The fruit market in late spring is no longer dominated by strawberries. Pineapples, mangoes, cherry tomatoes, and other seasonal fruits are flooding the market, diluting the demand. As a result, strawberries can only be sold if prices are lower.

The strawberry market this year is low to start with. In addition, due to the rapid rise in temperature, the ripening period is shortened to 20 days and the market volume has increased, but the sweetness is lower. As the temperature rises, it is also easy for fruit to rot. In order to clear products quickly, traders are forced to sell at lower prices. At the same time, open-field strawberries are also flooding the marketing. With the increase in supply, lower prices are inevitable.
