Spain exported a total volume of 839.62 million kilos of watermelon for 444.48 million euro in 2020, according to data prepared by Hortoinfo from the Estacom statistical service. More than half of the watermelons exported were produced in Almeria
The province exported 427.78 million kilos (50.95% of the total) for a value of 241.04 million euro (54.23% of the total). Almeria sold its watermelons at an average price of € 0.56/kg, i.e. 5.66% higher than the national average and 27.27% higher than the price of the fruit exported by Murcia, but 12.5% % less than the average price achieved by Valencia.
In 2020, different companies from Almeria imported from Morocco 18.12 million kilos of watermelon worth 12.35 million euro, at an average price of € 0.68/kg. Almeria purchases 599,660 kilos of watermelon from Senegal for 452,835 euro, at an average price of € 0.75/kg.
Murcia was Spain's second-biggest exporter of watermelons in 2020 with 171.51 million kilos worth 75.75 million euro and an average price of € 0.44/kg.
Importers from Murcia bought 1.83 million kilos of watermelon from Senegal for 987,098 euro, at an average price of € 0.54/kg, and 470,420 kilos from Morocco for 215,716 euro, and an average price of € 0.46/kg.
Murcia was followed by Valencia after exporting 99.64 million kilos of watermelons for 63.6 million euro, at an average price of € 0.64/kg.
It was followed by Castellon which exported 44.44 million kilos worth 15.42 million euro at an average price of € 0.35/kg.
Ciudad Real ranked fifth with 22.69 million kilos worth 8.58 million euro and an average price of € 0.38 / kg. It was followed by Seville with 6.84 million kilos worth 2.86 million euro and Granada with 1.21 million kilos worth 689,414 euro.
