Yesterday, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment released figures claiming that the Premium Qatari Vegetables and Qatar Farms programs posted significant sales during April. According to figures released by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, total sales stood at 2,798 tons with 468 tons marketed through the Premium Qatari Vegetables and 2,330 tons through the Qatar Farms Program.
These programs were launched by the MME, in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The goal is to improve local marketing operations and help farmers market their produce. The programs provide an opportunity for Qatari farmers to display their local production of high-quality vegetables at affordable prices for consumers without an intermediary.
According to gulf-times.com¸ the Premium Qatari Vegetable program was launched in January 2017 with the participation of 16 farms in Al Meera complexes only. As a result of the success of the program, it was launched in other consumer malls (such as LuLu Hypermarket, Carrefour and Family Food Centre) in December 2017.
