India: Fruit and vegetable prices skyrocketing in north Kashmir

Prices of vegetables and fruits are skyrocketing in the Baramulla, Kupwara and Bandipora districts of north Kashmir. Locals accuse traders of fleecing their customers by selling the vegetables and fruits at exorbitant prices.

“The fruit and vegetable sellers do not adhere to the rate list of Department of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution due to which we are left with no option but to buy the eatables at exorbitant rates,” one of them said.

According to some, not only vegetables, but fruit prices are soaring day by day as well, and the authorities are doing nothing to stop this. Assistant Director Food Baramulla, Sheikh Tariq Ahmad, told thekashmirimages.com: “Our teams are conducting market checking and we have fined many violators and whosoever will found selling commodities at higher rates will be fined and booked.”

He advised people to register complaints against the traders in question.
