The Civil Guard is investigating five people for committing an alleged crime against industrial property. The five people are being investigated for growing the protected blueberry varieties Emerald, Snowchaser, and Ventura without a license in various agricultural plots in the municipalities of Moguer and San Bartolome de la Torre, in Huelva.
The investigations have been carried out by the Roca 4 Team, who visited the facilities after receiving several complaints, obtained samples of blueberry leaves at random, and sent them to a laboratory to check their DNA profile.
They contrasted the lab results with a database of protected plant species and were able to determine that the five farmers cultivated the protected blueberry species without authorization.
Four farms have been inspected, resulting in the precautionary immobilization of nearly 20,000 blueberry plants.
