Table grape exports to Asian markets reached 16,938,111 boxes in the 2020/2021 season, according to data from Asoex. Even though this figure reflects a 16% decrease compared to the previous year, the markets of Southeast Asia experienced a significant increase this season.
Indonesia is the third destination market for Chilean grapes in Asia. This season it received 1,156,644 boxes of fresh grapes, i.e. 355.55% more than in the previous year. The main variety sent to this market is Red Globe, which accounts for 90% of the total table grapes exported to this destination, followed by the Autumn Royal variety, with 9%.
Shipments to Malaysia reached 250,172 boxes and a growth of 31.20%. The Red Globe variety was also the main variety exported to Malaysia, with 53% of the total, followed by the Autumn Royal variety, with 38.5%.
Thailand imported 200,706 boxes, i.e. 2.67% more than in the previous season. The Red Globe variety accounted for 94% of the total, and the Crimson Seedless had a 4% share.
Chile shipped 185,074 boxes of fresh grapes to the Philippines, i.e. 55.68% more than in the last season. The main variety shipped to this destination was the Crimson Seedless with 33.1% of the total. It was followed by the Red Globe variety with 31%, and the Sheegene20-Allison variety with 11%.
The Chilean table grape industry sent 126,617 boxes to Vietnam, 16.81% more than in the previous season. 55% of the grapes shipped to this market were of the Red Globe variety, and 33% of the Autumn Royal kind.
Finally, Chile sent 17,308 boxes of table grapes to Singapore, i.e. 202.16% more than in the last season. The Autumn Royal variety accounted for 40.8% of the total, Crimson Seedless for 13.8%, and Red Globe for 11.9%.
