Seasonal veg prices drop 30-40% at wholesale markets

Vegetable vendors at wholesale markets in Patna are seeing distressed sales due to the Covid-induced lockdown. Prices of seasonal vegetables have dropped by at least 30-40% at different mandis; the cause of this is a drop in demand and the market disruptions.

The falling price trends were seen as well in other vegetable markets, like Mussallahpur Haat, Gardanibagh, Phulwarisharf and Bazaar Samiti. Some vendors were seen dumping the remaining vegetables in the road after the start of the curfew.

Timesofindia.indiatimes.com spoke to a vendor at Bazaar Samiti, who said the of demand from bulk users like hotels and restaurants has also led to the price drops.
