Asparagus still No. 1 open field vegetable in Germany

Lower Saxony leads in asparagus cultivation

In Germany, asparagus is grown on a total of over 22,500 hectares, and 117,000 tons of the vegetable were harvested last year. This makes asparagus the No. 1 open field vegetable in Germany in terms of cultivated area, according to DeStatis.

The most significant asparagus growing areas are in Lower Saxony (4,632 ha), Brandenburg (4,001 ha), North Rhine-Westphalia (3,864 ha) and Bavaria (3,433 ha).In total, there were 1,598 asparagus farms in Germany in 2020.
