One year after the coronavirus pandemic hit the world, AgroAmerica continues following all the established health and safety protocols to continue delivering healthy food to preserve the health of its customers, business partners, and its more than 10,000 workers.
AgroAmerica worked together with governments, companies, and civil society to bring some relief to the neediest populations, through the donation of bananas, food, cleaning and hygiene supplies, and monetary donations.
"We worked tirelessly during 2020 to contribute to food security around the world, supplying markets with fruits because we are aware that they are an important source of nutrients to increase the body's defenses against the coronavirus," stated Fernando Bolaños, CEO of AgroAmerica.
Measures to protect workers
As part of the Occupational Health and Safety Policy, AgroAmerica has provided its workers all the prevention measures required by the governments of the countries in which it operates, following all the recommended protocols to operate during the pandemic. 100% of workers were trained on how to prevent the spread of COVID-19, to identify its symptoms, and on the measures to be taken against it.
Business brigade.
To reinforce this training, business brigades were carried out for four months, both in field operations and in central offices. The activity consists of training in the workplace, on safety and preventive measures for COVID-19, given by an epidemiologist from the Social Security Institute of Guatemala.
Hospital support
In alliance with other agro-industrial companies, AgroAmerica donated US $297,000 to the Government of Guatemala for the purchase of medical equipment to take care of infected people who required hospital care, mainly in the interior of Guatemala.
Collaboration with public servants, civil society, and vulnerable populations
In 2020, the company supported civil society and vulnerable populations by donating more than 13 million bananas to the communities, frontline health personnel, and government institutions fighting against the pandemic in the countries where they operate. The goal was to contribute to food security and prevent malnutrition from increasing, thereby strengthening the immune system of more than 62,000 beneficiary families.

The company also donated supplies - more than 4,000 gallons of chlorine, 13,000 masks, alcohol gel, and liquid soap - to the surrounding communities to prevent the outbreak of COVID-19.
Resources have been donated through 167 alliances, delivering supplies and bananas to communities, health posts and centers, firefighters, the National Civil Police, municipalities, the Red Cross, and Non-Governmental Organizations.
