Recyclable cellulose packaging and labels for La Costiera

Positive semester and good demand for Italian lemons

"The first half of 2021 is a positive one, marked by good demand both in Italy and abroad, but above all, because of the continuity of orders received from large-scale retailers. In contrast, the first half of 2020 was strongly influenced by the pandemic emergency, with a certain discontinuity in demand; there were periods with crazy orders and others with reduced demand. Among other things, requests from the retail channel were also different in the middle of the pandemic than they are to date. For example, there the new trend is seeing a change in demand from packaged products to increased bulk supply," said Valentina Sanna, export manager of La Costiera, a company based in Fondi (Lazio) and specialised in the lemon sector.

"We are currently in the peak of the Sorrento lemon season, with high quantities, good quality and excellent demand both in Italy and abroad. With regard to prices, an increase is expected, in line with the summer period of previous years. Consumption is also expected to increase.

La Costiera is increasingly moving towards an eco-sustainable approach, by reducing the use of plastic. The company is working on new biodegradable and fully recyclable packaging and labels, and cellulose nets. These will be available between September and October, for the Italian Primofiore lemon campaign.

"Another popular reference of the moment is cedar. Its season is now coming to an end and will start again in October," continued Sanna.

"We really miss trade fairs. They are an important opportunity for us to meet and exchange ideas, to get to know or consolidate our clientele, or to find out about new products from other companies in the supply chain. I don't think we will be attending Fruit Attraction in Madrid, because a trade fair with reduced staff and reduced stands and poor attendance cannot be called such.”
