"Chinese retail conditions for Clemen Gold were not as good this season as we expected"

The biggest advantage of South African Clemen Gold mandarins is their lack of seeds. Nearly 95% of the Clemen Gold on the market are seedless. That is unique. In addition, the nutritional value of Clemen Gold is very high. The Clemen Gold mandarins are delicious, juicy, and their fragrance is subtle. That is why the Clemen Gold is known as the 'king of mandarins'.

The sales season of Clemen Gold is already half over. One importer from Jiangnan Market in Guangzhou talked about the sales conditions this season. "Unrest in South Africa, earlier in the season, had no impact on the regular supply of Clemen Gold. Fruit export is one of the important economic pillars in South Africa and valued by the government there. Ports and shipping quickly recovered after the unrest in July," said the importer.

"The sales conditions of Clemen Gold were not as good as we had expected. Last season the imported Clemen Gold sold very well. In addition, Australian citrus trade with China was obstructed this year, which reduced market supply from Australia, and many importers shifted to Clemen Gold instead. We estimate that the Chinese import volume of Clemen Gold increased three- or fourfold. In other words, the supply volume greatly expanded. On top of that, the continued Covid-19 pandemic keeps the market from recovering, which affected general market demand for Clemen Gold."

"The larger supply volume affected the price of Clemen Gold this season. The price was slightly lower than in the same period last year." The supply season of Clemen Gold still lasts another month and a half, and according to this importer, "the conditions in the last phase of the season are not easy to predict. How the market will develop depends on the supply conditions of other import fruits and the ability to control the outbreak of Covid-19."

Clemen Gold is a mandarin variety cultivated by the South African Clemen Gold company. This variety has great commercial value and great market potential. Farmers and restaurants all over the world praise this mandarin variety. "The market fluctuations this season are still within regular margins and we are very positive about this brand. We had planned to organize promotional activities when the Clemen Gold season started, but due to the pandemic we have had to cancel them. As one of the importers of Clemen Gold, we also hope to strengthen the position of this brand in the Chinese market."
