Low grape prices expected to improve soon

Quotations of Italian table grapes are dropping, especially when it comes to seedless grapes. "The starting price of 500 g punnets of white seedless cultivars destined abroad is €0.75/piece, while red and black varieties do not exceed €0.85-0.90, i.e. 10-15% less than 2020," reports the Italian table grapes commission.

"The starting price for Victoria seeded grapes hovers between €1.00 and €1.20/kg for the produce headed to the European markets and reaches €1.40/kg for that destined to the domestic market. Palieri and Red Globe manage €1.50/kg."

"This drop in prices was caused by low consumption, which coincided with some commercial strategies implemented by various big retail chains. Some European distribution centers did start enticing promotional campaigns over the past few weeks, but consumption did not follow suit."

"We would like to stress, however, that the current situation only regards this specific market phase and that we are expecting quotations and demand of both seeded and seedless grapes to pick up soon, especially considering the high quality of Italian productions and the limited presence of other competing products such as stone fruits."
