Santander and San Miguel lead the first Sustainability Linked Bond in Argentina

Globally known for its acronym: SLB -Sustainability Linked Bond- it is the first corporate bond of this type in the country. The issue, that was led by Santander Argentina, reached a value of more than $US 50.000.000

With Sustainability as a priority in the operation, San Miguel, a large player in the production and commercialization of fruits in the southern hemisphere, and Santander, a big platform for financial services in the country, issued and respectively placed the first Sustainability Linked Bond (SLB) in Argentina.

With this operation, San Miguel reaffirms the commitment in creating economic, social and environmental value for the communities where we operate.

The bond placement -known as Sustainability Linked Bond (SLB)- was led by Santander Argentina and it was set for $US50.006.468.

Within this frame, San Miguel commits to reach 66% of renewable energy of the total consume of the electric energy used in the Famailla Industrial Complex (Tucuman), in a 12 month period starting on September 30 of this year, generating an average saving of 6.300 TN CO2 per year.

This achievement is part of our company's sustainability strategy, that covers an ambitious 10-Year Climate Action Plan, which main objective is to reduce the carbon footprint with the use of renewable energies, the conservation of more 6.000 hectares of native forests, that serve as CO 2 sinks and the Global Inventory of Greenhouse Gases (GHG), from which they identify and implement improvement and efficiency actions. Since February 2020, the company incorporated renewable sources of wind origin in its energy matrix, exceeding once the year ended, the fee required by the Argentine Law of Renewable Energies by 2025 with a 5-year anticipation.

Santander reassures its commitment with sustainable investors, due that this year it was also a setter of the first Sustainability Linked Bond, issued in the local debt market (the destination of funds has a green and social impact at the same time). Also, it consolidates its leadership in the segment: just the first semester, Santander participated in 32 issues for more than 122.000 Argentine pesos, representing 79% of the total market  of corporate bonds.
