The main fresh fruit shipped was the cherry

Chilean fruit exports total 5,296 million FOB dollars between January and August

Chile exported a total of 2.66 million tons of fruits for 5.296 billion FOB dollars between January and August - without considering the IVV (Value Variation Report) -, i.e. 1.3% more volume and 3% more value than in the same period of the previous year, according to the latest bulletin from the Office of Agrarian Studies and Policies (Odepa). 75% of the total value corresponds to fresh fruit, 18% to processed fruit (juices, oils, canned, frozen, dehydrated), and the rest to dried fruits (walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts, among others).

Fresh fruit sales rose to 2.13 million tons (-0.1%) and US $ 3.949 billion FOB (+ 1%). The main species exported in the period in this group was the cherry, with 266,000 tons (+ 83%) for 1.201 billion FOB dollars (+ 26%). China accounted for 90% of the total value of cherry shipments.

It was followed by table grapes with 522,000 tons (-13%) and 887.8 million FOB dollars (-13%). The main destinations were the United States (47%) and China (15%).

Apples ranked third, as the country exported 546,000 tons (-4%) for 503 million FOB (-2%). The main destinations were the US, Colombia, the Netherlands, and India (concentrating 13%, 10%, 9%, and 9% of the total value of apple shipments, respectively).

Blueberries ranked fourth with 96,000 tons exported for 484 million dollars FOB. This fruit was mainly shipped to the US (50%), the Netherlands (19%), and the United Kingdom (10%).

These four species, together with kiwi (the fifth fruit with the highest exports in the analyzed period) account for 83% of the total value of fresh fruit exports in the first 8 months of the year.

The country exported 94,900 tons (+ 18%) of dried fruits for 402.9 million dollars FOB (+ 12%) between January and August of 2021.

The main exported product in terms of value was the walnut in shell, with 61,700 tons and 169.2 million FOB dollars, accounting for 42% of the total value of dried fruit shipments. The main destination markets for Chilean dried fruits were Turkey (24%), India (23%), and Italy (11%).

Finally, the country exported 434,900 tons (+ 6%) of processed fruit for 943.9 million FOB dollars (+ 10%) in the aforementioned period.
