In mid-October, Taiwan will take China’s import ban on three types of Taiwan fruit to the World Trade Organization for a ruling. China banned the import of Taiwanese pineapples in March and announced a ban on sugar apples and wax apples from the nation on September 19.
Taiwan’s Council of Agriculture (COA) has demanded that China produce evidence of their alleged finds of “bugs” in the Taiwanese shipments, but no reply had been received. As a result, Taiwan will take its case to the WTO, where the committee in charge of disputes under the Agreements on the Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures might discuss the issue in November.
