MedHermes Vegetable Seeds hosted a successful event for the launch of the new tomato variety midi plum Imera F1 at the Italian farm La Sant'Andrea di Leonardo Capotosto (O.P. Fondana) in Fondi (Lazio).
A moment during the event
The representatives from the fruit and vegetable sector, including growers, technicians and traders, were able to exchange views and opinions. There was a strong interest in a variety, which will certainly be much talked about.
Imera F1 is a hardy, strong and covering variety. It is ideal for transplanting from January to the end of July, in central and southern Italy; it has an elegant and compact bunch and a thick rachis. The fruit has a long shelf life, both on the plant (showing no evidence of splitting) and after harvesting. The plant also has a high resistance to apical rot.
The visitors were able to appreciate the plant's adaptability to the most diverse growing conditions, such as the high temperatures that occurred during the plant's growth and development cycle. The variety showed high fruit set right up to the apical shoots, guaranteeing high production yields, uniformity of production and the highest brix degrees on the market of between 6 and 7 degrees. The operators were also able to appreciate how easy Imera F1 is to manage, as it is characterized by a medium vigor with a balanced vegetative/generative ratio. The root system is always very well developed, and this allows it to easily overcome conditions of soil and climate stress," explained Arcangelo Ambrosio, R&D Sud Italia.
With this variety our company confirms itself as a professional seed producer of reference for the fresh market tomato segment at an international level. Specifically, Imera F1 is a variety that belongs to the range of premium tomatoes, i.e., characterized by a superior flavor and aroma, as well as by high-quality. Our company is working on the creation of a 100% Italian controlled supply chain, from seed to fruit, with an extensive calendar for the Italian and foreign markets, in the premium range. Ours is a quality model that actually generates a pact between those who produce and those who consume," added Alfredo Amoroso, CEO of Medhermes.
The development of the variety in the premium range in Italy and Spain (see Bacco cocktail project in Almeria) is supported by the blog www.tomatocult.com and by social networks whose mission is to develop a communication network between producers and consumers in Europe.
