The General Administration Customs China (GACC) announced on the 24th of November that Uzbekistan obtained permission to export lemons to China. The lemons have to meet the requirements in the 'protocol for quarantine and inspection regulations regarding Uzbekistani lemon export to the Chinese market', which was ratified by the GACC and the government of Uzbekistan.
Lemon plantations (greenhouses) and packaging factories must meet the quarantine and inspection requirements of the Uzbekistani government, and they must be registered with the GACC.
The quarantine requirements are aimed at the following harmful organisms:
1. Ceroplastes rusci
2. Ectomyelois ceratoniae
3. Neoaliturus tenellus
4. Xanthomonas citri
5. Pseudomonas syringae pv. syringae
Uzbekistant exported around 7,100 tons of lemons in 2020 with a total value of 8,600,000 USD. They mainly exported lemons to Russia (3,400 tons), Kazakhstan (2,100 tons), Kyrgyzstan (1,500 tons), Afghanistan (87.7 tons), and Ukraine (20.6 tons).
