UK transport infrastructure poised for perfect storm, warns leading economist
The UK’s transport infrastructure needs to brace itself for an environmental and logistical perfect storm, warned economist Walter Boettcher. In his report "Clicks & Consequences - accommodating the rise of e-commerce", Dr Boettcher, Colliers’ UK head of research and economics argued that the rise of e-commerce is exposing the fragility of the supply chain system, inhibiting attempts to reach net zero. Consumerism, explained Boettcher, could lead to the UK’s road network grinding to a halt by the end of the decade, as 38,000 additional HGV will need to enter service to satisfy the ongoing demand.

Britain's Asda charters own cargo ship to protect Christmas supplies
British supermarket group Asda has chartered its own cargo ship to protect availability of key Christmas products, it said as it reported a drop in underlying sales in the 3rd quarter. Asda has also recruited 15,000 temporary workers for the Christmas period and increased the capacity of its grocery home delivery service to 1mln slots in the final week before Christmas. Asda said like-for-like sales, excluding fuel, fell 0.7% year-on-year in the 3 months to September 30, its fiscal 3rd quarter, having fallen by the same amount in its 2nd quarter.

US: Walmart announces CFO transition plan
Walmart Inc. announced that Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Brett Biggs will begin transitioning from Walmart during this upcoming year, after 22 years with the company, to begin a new chapter of opportunities in both the for-profit and non-profit sectors. Biggs will remain in the CFO role until a successor is named next year and then support that transition, remaining as an associate until he leaves the company on January 31, 2023. As part of the transition, he will also continue representing the company as a board member on Walmart’s FinTech startup joint venture with Ribbit Capital.
