"Emilia Romagna must not lose its dominant position as a leading producer in Europe, so it is necessary to find new solutions. Research is developing continuously to solve problems such as fungi and bacteria and to indicate the most suitable defence strategies. The FOX9 rootstock is a valid alternative that is becoming increasingly popular in Europe thanks to its natural resistance to the main adversities," reads a note by Vivai F.lli Zanzi
Fox9 boasts a complete affinity, the possibility of obtaining stubble and a high resistance to high limestone levels, making it very reliable. Fox9 is an exclusive at Vivai F.lli Zanzi, property of the University of Milan, the University of Bologna and Veneto Agricoltura, and has been tested for years by Sasse Rami. The data collected highlight a higher plant vigor than BA29 (+15%) while maintaining productivity and average weight of the fruit.

What is more, Italian research has obtained varieties with better characteristics than those that have been around for years. Crea194 is the perfect example, a variety that can be multiplied with a license by Geoplant Vivai, relevant thanks to its early ripening period (coinciding with Santa Maria). "Its appealing shape is like that of Carmen pears, but fruits are more productive, juicy and aromatic. One of its points of strength is the fact that it can be stored in controlled atmosphere units for longer than Carmen."
