Potato stocks in Idaho on December 1, 2021 totaled 92.5 million cwt. Disappearance of the Idaho crop to date was 39.6 million cwt. December 1 potato stocks in Oregon totaled 20.0 million cwt. Disappearance to date was 5.5 million cwt. In Washington, December 1 potato stocks totaled 52.0 million cwt. Disappearance to date totaled 41.3 million cwt.
Nationally, the major potato States held 265 million cwt. in storage on December 1, 2021, down 2 percent from December 1, 2020. Potatoes in storage accounted for 64 percent of the States' 2021 production compared with 64 percent a year earlier. The indicated potato disappearance, at 148 million cwt, was down 1 percent from the same period last year. Season-to-date shrink and loss, at 13.2 million cwt, was 10 percent higher than the same time last year.
Processors in Idaho and Malheur County, Oregon used 27.1 million cwt. of potatoes for the season, down slightly from December l, 2020. In Washington and other Oregon counties, 35.0 million cwt. of potatoes had been used by processors for the season, up 10 percent from the previous year. Processors in the 8 States used 75.9 million cwt. of potatoes for the season, up 5 percent from December 2020.
