China has the world's largest blueberry growing area

According to the data of the International Blueberry Organization: In recent years, the global blueberry cultivation area has continued to expand, from 132.56 thousand hectares in 2016 to 205.67 thousand hectares in 2020, an increase of 73.1 thousand hectares, mainly benefiting from the cultivation areas in China, Peru, Poland and other regions. In 2020, China was the fastest-growing region in the global blueberry cultivation area.

Before 2019, the United States had always been the largest country in blueberry cultivation. In 2019, China's blueberry production surpassed that of the United States for the first time, becoming the world's largest blueberry growing area. Global blueberry production has maintained a steady increase, and fresh fruit is still the main product form of global blueberry production. In 2020, the global blueberry output was 1.388 million tons, an increase of 8.7% from 1.277 million tons in 2019; among them, the fresh fruit output was 962,000 tons, accounting for 69% of the total output; the processing volume was 426,000 tons, and the processing volume accounted for an increase compared with 2019.

The commercial cultivation of blueberries in China started in 2000, and it has only been developing for more than 20 years, but the development speed is very fast. It has now surpassed the United States to become the world's largest blueberry producer; in 2020, China's blueberry output was 285,000 tons, of which 154,000 tons were used for processing; the blueberry output in the United States was 283,000 tons, of which 130,000 tons were used for processing. At present, only China and the United States produce more than 200,000 tons of blueberries.

China's blueberry planting is mainly concentrated in Guizhou, Liaoning, Shandong and other regions. The top five regions of China's blueberry production in 2020 are Guizhou, Sichuan, Anhui, Liaoning, and Shandong, accounting for 24.5%, 14.4%, 11.5%, 10.1%, and 9.5% respectively, and these five places together accounted for 70%.
