Chile exported 2.62 million tons of fresh fruits in 2021

According to the latest bulletin from the Office of Agricultural Studies and Policies (Odepa), last year Chile exported 2.62 million tons of fresh fruit for a value of 5.052 billion dollars FOB. Chilean exports increased by 2% in the volume exported while its value contracted by 1.9% when compared to the year 2020.

The main species exported in the period were cherries, with 336,000 tons, and 1.589 billion FOB dollars, reflecting a 49% increase in volume and a 1% increase in value over the same period of the previous year. China accounted for 89% of the total value of cherry shipments.

Table grapes are next in importance, with 525,000 tons and 927 million dollars FOB, registering a 13% decrease in volume and a 10% decrease in value over the previous year. Shipments were mainly sent to the United States ( 47%) and China (15%).

Apples ranked third with 643,700 tons and 617.2 million FOB dollars. Apple shipments decreased by 2.5% in volume and increased by 5% in value over the previous year. The main buyers were Colombia (12%), the United States (11%), the Netherlands (8.3%), and India (7.8%).

Blueberries ranked fourth with 113,000 tons and 573 million dollars FOB. The main destinations were the United States (48%), the Netherlands (19%), and the United Kingdom (9%).

These four species, together with kiwi and avocado, account for 83% of the total value of fresh fruit exported in the analyzed period.

Total fruit exports, taking into account fresh fruit, dried fruit, and processed fruit, totaled 3.42 million tons worth 7.183 billion FOB dollars. Fresh fruit exports accounted for 70.3% of this amount.
