Representatives of the General Directorate of Health and Food Safety (DG-SANTE) of the European Commission met online with the authorities of the National Agricultural Food Health and Quality Service (Senasa) and highlighted the good results obtained by Argentina during the last citrus export campaign to that destination.

Last season, Argentina exported a total of 143,397.4 tons of fresh citrus fruit to the EU. According to a statement from Senasa, Argentinean citrus exports were led by lemons with 108,983.7 tons to the Netherlands, Italy, Portugal, and Greece; orange with 33,684.5 tons to the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and Italy, and mandarins with 729.2 tons to the United Kingdom.

The meeting was attended by Senasa's president, Carlos Paz; vice president, Carlos Milicevic, and the national director of Plant Protection, Diego Quiroga, together with representatives of the technical teams.

The balance of the 2021 citrus export season to the EU was discussed in the meeting and the European representatives highlighted Senasa's work in the recovery of the strengthening of actions in the territory.

Moreover, a draft EU standard was discussed detailing the measures to be implemented against the black spot. Another topic that was addressed was the E-Phyto electronic certification, as Argentina stated that it was now in a position to issue all of its phytosanitary certificates to that destination electronically.
