Carlos Mercado, from Comercializadora Mexico:

"The entry of Jalisco's Hass avocado into the United States will enhance the supply to more accessible prices"

In August 2021, a group of Mexican entrepreneurs with 27 years of experience in international logistics importing and exporting Mexican food products decided to found the Comercializadora México company.

Headquartered in Chihuahua, Mexico, as well as El Paso, Texas, the young company is able to supply Persian lime, Hass avocado, tomatillos, dehydrated chilies, and ready-to-eat products -such as guacamole and avocado pulp- throughout the year, as well as other seasonal products such as mangoes.

“We specialize in the marketing of Mexican products, although we are open to importing products from other origins if our clients require it,” stated Daniella Ginther, purchasing manager of Comercializadora México. “We can work on the packaging at the time we buy the products in the field, offering clients the product they need under the brand they request. We want to let our customers know that we bring fresh products directly from the field to their table. Our goal is to distribute and publicize the quality, variety, and flavors that the Mexican agricultural and culinary products offer.”

The main destinations are Mexico and the US, as the company has facilities in both of these countries. To the right, Hass avocado, which according to US regulations, can only be exported to the US if it comes from the state of Michoacan, the main producing area in Mexico. To the left, Persian limes, one of the products with the highest demand in the international market.

"The new FDA regulation, which allows the entry of Hass avocado from the state of Jalisco in the middle of the year, will enhance the American market's supply as they will be more accessible and have competitive prices," stated Carlos Mercado, the general manager of the company. At the moment avocado prices are very volatile in the United States; in Mexico, they are more stable, he added.

"In the middle of this year, we'll focus on exporting to Europe, looking for long-term contracts to export products so we can position new brands in the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and Spain this year," Carlos Mercado stated.

In the meantime, the company is working in the Mexican market through supermarket chains, and in the United States, where they are just opening business lines through supermarkets.
