Potato Market Update 9th February

Ireland: Potato consumption appears to be increasing this week

Potato consumption appears to be increasing this week, as trading is said to be slightly stronger.

As long as the ground conditions are favorable, early plantings will continue; some farmers in the southeast are reaching completion. Growers are advised once again to grow for their markets and to be aware of market volatility over the last two years. Peeling stock is currently priced at €170 for rooster and €250 for whites, according to reports.

The fresh market in Europe is keeping steady, and export demand from Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean persists, but rising costs aren't helping matters.
