Sources say that vaccine mandates have intensified a long-term shortage of truckers within the United States. Jon Eisen of American Trucking Associations, said during a Washington, DC, panel: “There’s no question that the vaccine mandates between the United States and Canada right now are creating difficulty.”
In 2019, there already was a shortage of about 60,000 industrial truckers within the US. During the pandemic that has grown to about 80,000. The problems extend beyond the number of drivers; as many warehouses are short-staffed due to Covid absenteeism, truckers have to wait longer when loading or unloading.
Of course, the present border concern compounds the present issues, affecting nearly all US industrial items transport. About 74 percent of home US freight is moved by truck.
