"We think it'll be a great season for Mexican mangoes in North America"

Mexico will export more than 61 million boxes of mangoes this season

Mexican mango producers expect similar volumes to the ones achieved in 2021 in this campaign. They expect to export 61,655,763 million boxes to the United States market and the production to peak between weeks 13 and 24, from March 20 to June 11. They also expect to export more than 3 million boxes per week in weeks 18 (April 24 to 30), 23, 24, 25, and 26 (May 29 to June 25).

"We expect the state of Oaxaca will have a strong production starting April because the fruit is delayed and we haven't achieved the volumes we see in the first months of other years. However, in April we'll see good volumes,” stated the president of EMEX (Association of Mango Exporters of Mexico), engineer Eduardo Castillejos.

"There's been a shortage of Ataulfo mangoes in the first two weeks of February, but it will recover slightly in the third week and continues to rise until the last week of March. We expect a good production and an increase in volume throughout the month of April,” he added.

"We expect shortages of Tommy mangoes in the next two weeks. Production will improve in the last week of February, it will continue to increase little by little, and by March 20 and April we'll see an increase in volume."

"Chiapas will have similar behavior to Oaxaca. There were shortages in the first two weeks of February, but production will start to improve from the third week of the month and it will peak from March 20," the head of EMEX stated.

According to Castillejos, the EMEX team forecasts Michoacan will produce 14,187,145 million boxes this season, Nayarit 12,759,913 million boxes, and Sinaloa 11,512,160 million boxes. "They will be followed by Oaxaca, with 10,503,707 million boxes,” he added.

“Chiapas will produce 4,906,662 million boxes, Jalisco 4,457,385 million boxes, Guerrero 2,095,606 million boxes and, in last place, Colima 1,233,186 million boxes,” the president of the Association of Packers of Mangoes for Export of Mexico stated.

"This is what we forecast for the 2022 Mexican mango harvest for the United States market," he said.
