Rosselkhoznadzor also allows imports of tomatoes from number of countries

Russia lifts ban on Bangladeshi potatoes after seven years

Russia lifts ban on Bangladesh's potato exports, now expressing eagerness to import the vegetable. Bangladesh can now export potatoes to Russia as the country has lifted the ban recently, says the embassy of Russia-the European country now at war with neighboring Ukraine.

"The Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance of the Russian Federation (Rosselkhoznadzor) removed previously imposed restrictions and resumed the import of potato from the entire territory of the People's Republic of Bangladesh," a spokesperson for the embassy in Dhaka said yesterday.

The decision has been made based on the information provided by the competent Bangladeshi authorities responsible for quarantine and protection of plants, about the measures taken to prevent violations of the phytosanitary requirements of the Russian Federation and the Eurasian Economic Union member-states.

Thefinancialexpress.com.bd reports that, in recent times, Bangladesh has been requesting the country to withdraw the ban citing that necessary measures regarding the quarantine were taken by the government.

Rosselkhoznadzor allows tomatoes from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan
The Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance has also allowed the import of tomatoes from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. In particular, the organization lifted all restrictions on the supply of tomatoes and peppers from Uzbekistan.

Also, import to the territory of the Russian Federation is resumed without taking into account restrictions on manufacturing enterprises:

  • tomatoes from Azerbaijan
  • tomatoes from Armenia
  • tomatoes and peppers from Belarus
  • tomatoes and peppers from Kazakhstan
  • potatoes from Egypt
  • tomatoes and peppers from Kyrgyzstan
  • tomatoes, peppers, zucchini and eggplant from Turkey
  • tomatoes and peppers from Turkmenistan

“The decision was made based on the results of the analysis of information on regionalization provided by the national organizations for quarantine and plant protection of the above countries, as well as on the measures taken to prevent violations of the phytosanitary requirements of the Russian Federation and the EAEU member countries,” the organization stated.
