"It'll take a long time to rebound, diesel prices won't go down when the war ends"

Carriers announce they won't work next week because they can't pay for their fuel

"Diesel prices make it unviable to use our trucks," a Valencian entrepreneur in the transport of goods by land stated. At present, filling up the tank of a trailer is 300 euro more expensive than less than two weeks ago.

The Valencian Federation of Transport and Logistics Entrepreneurs (FVET) issued a statement denouncing that the price of diesel A had increased by 20.2% since the war started 13 days ago, going from 1.478 euro per liter to 1.777 euro.

Faced with this increase in the price of fuels due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Spain's transport and logistics sectors have announced stoppages as of Monday.

"We're told it's an illegal strike, but the truck that doesn't stop on Monday will be forced to stop on Thursday because the freight prices (of each route) are not good enough to cover the cost of diesel," a small businessman stated. This is not a strike to protest, it's a stoppage of vehicles because transporters can't afford the fuel for their vehicles.

The situation is so extreme that the companies consulted by ABC have begun contacting the appropriate institutions to be able to implement the necessary labor force adjustment plans, as, in the short term, no improvements of the situation are expected: "It'll take a long time to rebound, diesel prices won't go down when the war ends."

The National Committee for the Transport of Goods by Road, of which the FVET is a member, has requested an urgent meeting with the President of the Government, Pedro Sanchez, to ensure the application of measures that allow the continuity of transport companies and to avoid an economic collapse.
