According to the South American Overseas Chinese News (NMQB.cn), in recent years, the production and export of Chilean nectarines have been increasing steadily. Data show that Chile has exported 300 containers of nectarines to China this season (as of early March). It is understood that the Chilean nectarine season started quite late this year, but thanks to the good quality of the product, the price is very high.
In previous years, the selling price of Chilean nectarines started about 280 to 290 RMB (about 44.3 to 45.88 US dollars) per box (10 kg). But this season's initial price is about 360 RMB (about $56.95) per 10kg box. As a result, major suppliers in the early market made huge profits.
Generally speaking, Chilean nectarines are sold in wholesale markets in China from December to April of the following year. This year, the Chilean nectarine season started a little later than usual. At the beginning of the season, only a few brands supply nectarines, and the flow of products is rather slow. This is also the reason why nectarine prices are high at the start of the season.
After the Spring Festival this year, the price of nectarines declined as the flow of products accelerated and the supply increased. Even so, this year's nectarine prices are still higher than in previous years. China imports more nectarines from Chile than Australia, Chinese consumers are more familiar with nectarines from Chile, and the Chinese market has always had a strong demand for them.
