Champion blueberry in Conghua District, Guangzhou on the market

Recently, the blueberries in Xianju Fruit Village, Wenquan Town, Conghua District, Guangzhou have entered the ripening stage. The local blueberries are managed using intelligent temperature control, intelligent drip irrigation, real-time monitoring and an intelligent thermal insulation system that integrates water and fertilizer. This blueberry is about the size of a 1 RMB coin.

It is understood that the introduction of this blueberry is a new foreign variety-Champion Blueberry, which was successfully tested locally in 2020, and was planted on a large scale in 2021. The current planting area is almost 5 hectares, and it plans to expand to more than 66 hectares this year.

It is reported that the harvest time of the champion blueberry lasts from mid-February to the end of May this year. The harvest time is early and the harvest period is long, which is staggered compared the peak ripening period of other blueberries. Its output is very fast, and it can be harvested in ten months. The yield per hectare in the first year can reach 11.25tons, and it will double in the second year.

It is understood that the blueberries here are planted in pots. Various monitoring and sensing equipment such as drip irrigation are built in the pots. The supply and regulation are carried out through intelligent equipment combined with the nutritional needs of blueberries at various production stages.

Technology empowers blueberry production, which can be seen in many regions. At the end of February, the first batch of blueberries came into the market in Jiaozhou, Qingdao, Shandong. At that time, due to the early ripening of blueberries, the price was around 120-180 RMB/kg. They make full use of soilless cultivation technology in the production of blueberries.

In the traditional blueberry cultivation mode, more than 4,500 blueberries can be planted in one hectare. In addition, blueberries have strict requirements for soil quality. The cost of soil improvement is high and the soil structure will be damaged. Blueberries can only start to generate profits after 3 years of planting, and can only enter the full fruit period after 4 to 5 years.

The integrated soilless cultivation mode of water and fertilizer for blueberries can plant 3 to 5 times as much as the traditional cultivation mode, which greatly saves the land cost, and the daily management and labor costs are greatly reduced. And it will bloom and bear fruit in the same year, and the long-term benefit is more than 5 times that of the traditional cultivation mode.

At present, Qingdao has planted about 100,000 trees, which is equivalent to about 66 hectares of arable land. In the next step, greenhouse planting will cooperate with the intelligent water and fertilizer control systems to achieve precise management and save manpower.
