Philippines Department of Trade and Industry want US to accept nation’s pineapples

The Filipino Department of Trade and Industry is urging US officials to allow the export of pineapples to mainland America. The Philippines’s interest in exporting pineapples to mainland US was just one of the issues tackled during a landmark bilateral meeting between Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez and United States Trade Representative (USTR) Katherine Tai.

Lopez confirmed the acceptability of the mitigating measures proposed by the US Animal and Plant Health Service (APHIS) for the entry of Philippine pineapples. The Philippines is the world’s second-largest exporter of fresh pineapples in 2019, with total shipments of over 600,000 metric tons (MT), according to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
