According to the Transportation Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality, the first Shenzhen "Bay Area" special train with a China Shenzhen-Laos-Thailand cold chain, departed from Shenzhen Pinghu South National Logistics Hub on April 21. Laden with a total of 64 TEU of malt, vegetables, candy, etc., the train runs through Vientiane and Laos. It is expected to arrive in Thailand in 7 days. After that, the special train will load Thai tropical fruits and import them to mainland China by public railway intermodal transport.
This is the first attempt by the Shenzhen "Bay Area" China-Europe Express Train to provide customers with end-to-end cold chain service across China-Laos-Thailand after opening the international railway intermodal transport channel in these regions in March. This is also the first cold chain round-trip train across China-Laos-Thailand in South China, marking the official opening of the international cold chain logistics channel between the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the ASEAN region.
Since the opening of the China-Laos Railway at the end of 2021, freight demand has been strong. Compared with the original mode of transport by sea or road, the cold chain transport of the China-Laos railway has advantages in terms of efficiency, safety, and cost. The market prospects look promising.
Affected by the pandemic, the recent road transport in Southeast Asia has been seriously hindered. In response to the urgent needs of the cold chain market in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Shenzhen "Bay Area" China-Europe Express Train provides a tailor-made "China-Lao-Thailand" cold chain round-trip special train for the food trade enterprises in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. With the coordination from the Transportation Bureau of Shenzhen Municipal, Shenzhen Customs, Guangzhou Railway Group, and other relevant departments and the resource support of Sinotrans Container Company, the government-enterprise linkage and central-local cooperation have ensured the smooth operation of the train in the special period.
The China-Laos-Thai railway intermodal transport scheme is designed to carry Thai fruits on the return trip
After arriving in Thailand, the train will be loaded with Thai tropical fruits on the return journey. However, because the fruit supervision site of the Mohan Railway has not yet been built, the operation enterprise of Shenzhen "Bay Area" China-Europe Express Train has innovatively designed an alternative scheme for this public railway transport. The fruits will be transferred to Kunming, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and other places after entering China by road through Laos.
