The strawberry campaign has reached its peak

"The 2022 strawberry campaign has reached its peak. Light conditions are great, with a low humidity rate and sunny days that lead to homogeneous ripening and a constant increase of the volumes sold," commented Demetrio Nicodemo, production manager at Nicofruit, a producer from southern Italy specializing in strawberry cultivation on almost 50 hectares.

"We harvest around 30 tons of strawberries every day, 90% of which are destined to multiple Italian retail chains. The remaining part is shipped to the general markets in the center and north of the country. Quality and volumes are great, and will remain so at least until mid June precisely thanks to the Inspire quality, which enables us to prolong the strawberry campaign by around one month, unlike other cultivars we had in the past that had fruits that were no longer suitable to be commercialized after a certain date."

"The strawberries we have been harvesting for the past 3 weeks have average grades of 55-60 grams. They look wonderful both in the fields and in punnets. In addition, we have strengthened the Matera® brand, which seems to be recognized on supermarket shelves."

"The main problem during this campaign remains labor, as we can't find skilled personnel. Thankfully, we invested on a variety that can be harvested every 9-11 days with unaltered organoleptic qualities. Had we had a cultivar that needed more frequent operations, we would have had to abandon over 50% of the crops."
