AREFLH organizes an exchange between European regions, producers and European institutions

As part of its general assembly in Trento, Italy, on June 16th, AREFLH is organizing a public conference on the impacts of the geopolitical crisis on the European fruit and vegetable sector.

For over 20 years, AREFLH (the Fruit, Vegetable and Horticultural European Regions Assembly) has been actively defending the economic and social interests of regions and producers before the European institutions. Each year, the general assembly and its related conference take place in a member region. This year, the event will be held in the Autonomous Province of Trento, Italy, in partnership with Interpoma, as well as Assomela, which is also a member of AREFLH.

The conference will be organized around two intervention units. First, Claudio Scalise (SG Marketing) will give an analysis of the current macroeconomic situation, followed by an intervention by Christiane Lambert, president of COPA. A round table with professional representatives will help illustrate the challenges currently faced by the European fruit and vegetable sector.

Then, the floor will be given to the institutions (European Commission and Parliament) to comment on the consequences of the geopolitical crisis and to give an update on the European measures approved, as well as to relieve and reinforce the agricultural sector, especially the fruit and vegetable professionals. Seven representatives of the European Commission (DG AGRI and DG SANTE) and of the Parliament, including Herbert Dorfmann, have already confirmed their participation.

With the new National Strategic Plans of the PAC and the new CMO for fruit and vegetables, this event will also be an opportunity to discuss the transition period and the new directive on the sustainable use of pesticides which will be presented by María Pilar Aguar Fernández (DG SANTE), who will join remotely.

Attending the conference is free of charge, but registration is required. The program of the day is available at www.areflh.org

AREFLH’s network of regions and producers is growing
The network of regions and PO/PDOs of AREFLH continues to grow. “The fruit and vegetable sector trusts us,” claims Simona Caselli, president of AREFLH. “We currently represent 16 regions and 37 PO/PDOs from 10 European countries. We are welcoming more and more members and strengthening our coalition. The year has been quite intense and we are mobilized on all important issues. Despite the many challenges, we can definitely continue to progress together.”
