June is the peak season for fruits in Southeast Asia. In the Pingxiang Comprehensive Free Trade Zone (Youyi Pass) in Guangxi, on the border of China and Vietnam, trucks loaded with imported fruits such as durian, dragon fruit, jackfruit, and mangosteen are shuttled across non-stop. Every day, more than 60 imported fruit trucks pass through this place to enter the Chinese market. The average daily import and export volume of Youyi Pass is about 400 vehicles, and bilateral trade is gradually recovering from the adverse impact of the pandemic.
Since 2022, affected by the pandemic, China-Vietnam border ports have adopted stricter prevention and control measures, and the speed and volume of customs clearance have slowed down. To this end, Guangxi Beitou Port Investment Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Beitou Port Group) fully coordinated the Pingxiang and Dongxing port parks it invested and operated, optimized and upgraded the customs clearance operation mode, increased the construction of port infrastructure, and ensured smooth customs clearance.
Since the outbreak of the pandemic, Youyi Pass is the only land port in China that maintains normal customs clearance throughout the year. At present, the large-scale market of Southeast Asian fruits is also in the golden period for bilateral trade between China and Vietnam.
It is reported that through a series of optimization measures, the traffic capacity of Youyi Pass Port has been continuously and steadily improved. As of June 6, the accumulated traffic volume exceeded 56,000, and the traffic volume was nearly 540,000 tons.
The Dongxing Border Trade Zone is the largest border trade zone in Guangxi. After being temporarily closed for more than three months, customs clearance and inspection of goods were officially resumed on May 30. Cooperate with Dongxing Erqiao Port, which has previously resumed customs clearance, to ensure a smooth flow. The newly leveled, over-4-hectare site at Dongxing Erqiao Port was used as a buffer zone at the port during the pandemic; the accumulated hardened and paved land of nearly 20,000 square meters has further expanded the port's customs clearance and berthing capacity.
Up to now, all 8 border ports in Guangxi with the ability to pass products have been cleared normally. The local authority will also strengthen communication and coordination with the Vietnamese side to improve the convenience and customs clearance efficiency of ASEAN products to China.
