According to the French Potato Interprofessional's latest newsletter, the French market for fresh potatoes currently maintains a generally moderate pace, both in wholesale circuits and in large-scale distribution. The product range is expanding, both in terms of the number of references (in particular the 2.5 kg one) and in terms of volumes, which should reach a significant level next week.
There's been a sharp slowdown in the demand for fresh products from buyers in Spain and Italy, but France continues to export potatoes to these two countries.
Portugal is now importing very little volumes and relies on locally produced early potatoes to meet its needs.
The countries of Central and Eastern Europe continue to be very active in the market, importing some products of different characteristics (firm meat and consumption), to supply local demand, which is covered by domestic production and by imports from other origins, such as Germany.
