H-E-B bests Amazon as dunnhumby’s top U.S. e-grocer
Texas grocer H-E-B inched past e-tail giant Amazon as the top-ranked U.S. online grocery retailer in the inaugural dunnhumby eCommerce Retailer Preference Index (RPI). The 2022 dunnhumby eCommerce RPI polled 3,000 U.S. households in the $100bln U.S. grocery market and ranked 54 retailers based on customer preference drivers of owned digital asset usage, ease and reliability, substitutes, products and price, along with a composite score of change in web visits (2019 to 2021) from SimilarWeb, share of wallet online, and online penetration. Households surveyed shopped online for groceries at least once in the previous 30 days.

UK shop prices hit highest rate of inflation since 2008
Shop prices have hit their highest rate of inflation in almost 14 years as businesses grapple with soaring supply chain costs and a cut in household spending, figures from the British Retail Consortium (BRC) show. They were up 3.1% on a year ago in June, up from 2.8% in May - the highest rate of inflation since September 2008, according to the BRC-NielsenIQ shop price index.

Aldi has revealed a wish list of priority locations across the country where it is looking to build new stores. The UK’s fifth largest supermarket has been on a rapid expansion drive in recent years, helping it grow its market share to a record 9%, according to the latest Kantar Grocery Market Share figures (12 weeks ending). Aldi, which already has more than 960 stores across the UK, is looking for freehold town-centre or edge-of-town sites that are around 1.5 acres.

New Zealand: Supie hopes to raise up to $5mln through Snowball Effect
Online-only grocery retailer Supie is hoping to raise up to $5mln from the public to help its Auckland expansion. Supie launched in mid-2021, aiming to inject competition into the $22bln supermarket industry which is dominated by two players, Foodstuffs and Woolworths NZ. UAE: Lulu Group’s $2.9bln expansion in retail network on track
Lulu Group International is on track with its $2.9bln (AED10.7bln) investment in its retail network, opening 91 hypermarkets between 2020 and 2023. It said 50 of these stores have already been opened during the Covid-19 pandemic. The supermarket chain now has 235 hypermarkets, shopping malls and fulfillment centres across 12 countries including the GCC, India, Malaysia, Indonesia and Egypt.

Pricer: Dutch supermarket chain PLUS Retail places 90 MSEK order
Pricer AB has received an order of approximately 90 MSEK from the Dutch co-operative supermarket chain PLUS to equip 128 additional stores, previously under the Coop banner, with electronic shelf labels.
